I’m an Anteater

Say it loud, say it proud, my anteater brother, because aren’t we all anteaters? I mean really? Like, on the inside? Man, I want an anteater as a pet. They look so awesome.  I bet it would play frisbee with me in the park. I bet it would watch Dharma and Greg reruns with me.

A little history: The year was twenty-oh-eight. The internet had ignored the anteaters for too long.  They had forever been overshadowed by the lolcats, the loldogs, and the lolruses.  The anteater needed a presence in the image macro scene.  On May 10th, 2008, the first “I’m an Anteater!!!” lol made it to the front page of Digg, and the anteaters breathed a sigh of relief, a deep sigh right through that weird snout-nose thing they have.

The anteater presence in an image macro signals to the viewer that they are about to read a more refined LOL. There won’t be misspellings, there won’t be lolspeak, and there’s probably going to be a little adult language in there.  This is an anteater, after all, they have a long history of starting trouble.

The first time I saw an anteater in my LOL, I’m not going to lie, I was a little shocked.  “This animal, it isn’t cute like a kitten or a puppy,” I said. “Its mouth kind of looks like a… hmmm, I don’t about this.”  It was like I had been watching network television my whole life, and I had accidentally flipped to the Sopranos during a free HBO weekend.  Just like the Sopranos, an anteater is at first shocking to the senses, but also just like the Sopranos, there is so much subtext in an anteater, so much character development and personality, you’ll wonder how you ever lived Sunday nights without them.

Here’s an idea: buy seven shirts and it’ll be like anteater syndication.  That’s a shirt for every day of the week. And I promise you, if this shirt ends anticlimactically, with you sitting in a diner, eating dinner with your family as Journey plays, well, at least you’ll still be wearing an awesome shirt.
